Panic disorder and agoraphobia, or in fact all anxiety disorders and phobias, are nothing more but reflections of the dark side of our brain hacking through the “willpower firewall” in order to entertain itself by implementing scare tactics and sick jokes on us. Once the weak point of our defense system is found and a passage is made, our brain will stop at nothing at trying to use it over and over again. Unless, of course, we find a way to effectively block that passage.
So basically what is happening here is one part of our brain playing nasty games with another part of itself. Unwillingly we are giving ourselves false danger alarms and the rest of our body is responding to these “threats” accordingly. Our brain is tricking itself and other parts of our body into believing that something terrible is about to happen. Despite the fact that most of agoraphobia and panic disorder sufferers are aware that danger in those situations is not real and there is nothing to be scared of, the adrenalin rush and the fear are so strong and overwhelming that victims very quickly abandon their rational thinking and simply surrender to “evil forces which are completely out of their control.”
Stopping those forces and bringing your life back on track may not always be an easy task, especially if the condition hasn’t been addressed and treated while still at the very early stage. However, regardless of severity and different individual circumstances, help for panic disorder and agoraphobia is available and everybody who genuinely decides to fight them back can do it with a great success in a relatively short period of time. Good will, persistence, patience and the right weapon is all you need to succeed in your battle.
Generally, the traditional treatment of panic disorder and agoraphobia involves medication and/or some kind of psychotherapy. Although medication cannot cure these conditions it can keep their symptoms under control while patients receive therapy. This method has a reasonable high success rate but, like with almost everything in life, there is no guaranty that it will work for everybody. Cognitive behavioral therapy in combination with anti-anxiety agents or antidepressants is the most commonly used technique in traditional medicine.
Apart from this traditional approach there are also a few alternative programs and techniques (“Vanquish Fear & Anxiety” being one of them) which have helped and cured thousands of agoraphobics and panic attack victims. Sometimes those methods are discovered and developed by former sufferers (like Charles Linden’s “The Linden Method” and Joe Barry’s “Panic Away”) who after failing to receive adequate and satisfactory results from traditional medicine somehow found their own ways to tackle and defeat panic disorder and agoraphobia. Their first hand experiences and the knowledge they gained on the way to their recovery have been proven to be an invaluable asset to enormous number of people whose lives were destroyed by panic attacks.
Various natural remedies and supplements, stress management programs and relaxation techniques can also play a very important role on your way of becoming agoraphobia and panic disorder free.
The crucial thing to remember is that every person is different and will not respond in the same way to different medication and treatments. While for some patients learning and implementing a simple breathing technique will work wonders and solve the problem for a vast majority of agoraphobics and panic disorder sufferers will take weeks, months and sometimes even years of trying and experimenting with different medication, techniques or remedies before they find the “magic formula” and finally bring peace and happiness back into their lives.
Overcoming panic disorder and agoraphobia is a complex process and failures to accomplish this goal from the first attempt are certainly not uncommon. Be patient. Do not rush things. Take time to properly educate yourself about your condition. Learn to disregard failures and do not waste too much time on analyzing them. Instead focus all of your energy on building a new recovery plan. Tools that will help you to stop panic attacks and to claim your happiness back are out there. You just haven’t come across the right one yet.
Keep all this in mind and very soon you will be pleasantly surprised to find out that after all “there is light at the end of the tunnel”.
